LaLiga Tech / Sportian

The “LaLigaTech / Sportian” project was born as part of a strategic alliance between Globant and LaLiga of Spanish Football, with the purpose of modernizing the digital ecosystem that supports the operations of one of the most important sports leagues in the world.

The initial objective was to update and optimize the backoffice (VMS) responsible for managing all audiovisual content, data, and metadata for LaLiga, establishing the foundation for a new generation of tools capable of centralizing, scaling, and commercializing the digital sports experience.

Global OTT platform for end-to-end management and distribution of sports content, powering over 1,200 users across multiple devices and platforms.

CONTEXT

The first stage focused on strengthening the technical architecture, redesigning internal tools, and setting the foundation for future feature expansion.

The second stage evolved the platform into a scalable white-label product that could be adopted by any sports organization requiring its own digital content ecosystem.

Ultimately, the project matured into its commercial launch under a new brand: Sportian —the current evolution of the product.

KEY PROBLEM IDENTIFIED

One of the key challenges was translating a technically complex system into a usable experience for non-technical stakeholders, including editors, content producers, and club managers.

The platform’s metadata model featured deep hierarchical structures (seven or more nested levels), creating friction in searchability, navigation, and content management within the VMS.

Furthermore, the system needed to support multiple digital environments, requiring a flexible yet unified architecture to ensure consistency across leagues, divisions, clubs, competitions, seasons, and teams.

CHALLENGE

A key part of the challenge was integrating new features for enhanced sports content visualization and modernizing the distribution platforms—across Android, iOS, web (desktop and mobile), and major Smart TV ecosystems (LG, Samsung, HTLC).

We also extended the product to Apple TV and Roku, ensuring a unified visual identity that respected the updated brand system and maintained consistent UX across all devices.

The core challenge was striking the right balance between the platform’s technical capabilities and a modern, intuitive, multi-device interface that delivered a seamless user experience.

MY ROL

My role focused on enhancing the content management and publishing experience within the VMS by shaping the information architecture, refining content creation flows, and validating key interaction patterns.

I helped define the administrative layouts, streamline metadata forms, and structure interfaces that reduced cognitive effort for users.

Additionally, I worked on UI component documentation and partnered closely with engineering to maintain strong alignment between design intent and technical implementation.

IMPACT

The outcome was a stronger, more flexible, and scalable platform capable of handling thousands of content assets with granular permissions and visibility controls.

The modernization empowered editorial and technical teams to operate more independently, reducing publishing time and error rates across the workflow.

This evolution established the technological foundation for Sportian—the product’s new commercial identity—now positioned as a white-label solution for sports organizations worldwide.
